QUICK PREVIEW FOR THE MAD PROFESSOR AMP
NORMAL INPUT AND TONE CONTROLS VIDEO: Low/High
ABNORMAL INPUT AND POWERSUCK VIDEO: Low/High
Plug in a cabinet and boost pedal (both jacks are at the back) and turn the power on (at back) Plug in your guitar to the NORMAL or ABNORMAL input.
NORMAL channel is for clean and semi-distorted tones and also for old-school distortion with both volumes at full or almost full.
ABNORMAL is for clean to heavily distorted tones. The TUBE/FET switch works only with the ABNORMAL channel.
You can footswitch between TUBE and FET settings when pluged to ABNORMAL input and TUBE/FET switch turned to FET position.
At the back there is a LOOP switch, that is active even thou there is nothing in the loop.
First place FOCUS far left and all pots to 12 o'clock. Try different FOCUS settings to get an idea how they sound.
Try the two VOLUME pots to feel how they work; you can adjust the pre-amp and power-amp for different kind of distortion.
Use the TONEBALANCE to set the brightness you prefer and use TREBLE and PRESENCE to fine tune the high-end.
Both TREBLE and PRESENCE work so that the effect is mild at the first ¾ that is good for fine-tuning and if you want more it is really happening in the last ¼ of the pot range.
BASS and MIDDLE adjust the volume of those frequencies and are interactive with the TONEBALANCE.
BOOST is a volume boost placed between Pre- and Power-amp and can be adjusted from the amp or from the pedal. If you use the pedal with boost-knob, choose the maximum boost you need from the amp and tune if down with the knob in the pedal. If the power-amp is at maximum power then the boost acts as gain boost because you can't get more volume from the power-amp at full power.
Use the POWERSUCK at the back to get power-amp distortion that is more compressed and fatter with more bass. Turn the MASTERVOLUME at almost full and set the volume with POWERSUCK, great with ABNORMAL channel.
There are so many ways to get different shades of clean and distorted tone from this amp, so please experiment.
Two basic samples:
Sparkling clean with body: NORMAL input, FOCUS far left, TREBLE to 2 o'clock or more, PRESENCE to 2 o'clock or more and TONEBALANCE to about 12 o'clock, Turn down the MIDDLE a bit (more for vintage American tone) and adjust BASS to your taste.
Fat overdrive: Abnormal/ FET input, FOCUS at third or fourth from left, VOLUME to 2-5 o'clock, MASTER-VOLUME to about 3 o'clock, POWERSUCK set to the output volume you prefer.
More MASTER-VOLUME = more compressed tone, more low end.
Less MASTER-VOLUME and more VOLUME= more dynamic tone, bit tighter tone
FOCUS two settings at left = more open tone, great for clean tones FOCUS two settings at right = fatter tone, more mids great for distortion
The Mad Professor is not a modeling amp and was not made to sound like any certain vintage amp(s).
The MP was designed with respect for the classic tones of yesterday, but with the added versatility possible today.
Here are some settings to get you started, so you will quickly find out the Mad Professor tone is just beginning where many of the vintage amps peaked (reached maximum distortion, headroom, bottom end .....)

Match bass to your cabinet, Treble to taste, master volume to 2-4 o'clock and Volume to 10 o'clock for clean tone and 3 o'clock for nice distortion.
If you turn down the master volume you can get the tone of a small combo, try to turn the Volume up and master to very low position = sounds almost like a Champ.
Master at almost full it is like a really big Super Reverb.
If you have a nice reverb unit, plug it into the loop. Best results with nice pair of 6L6 tubes but you get a great American tone even with EL34's.
How to get the British chimey top boost tone from Mad Professor amp:
Plug your amp into 2x12" open back cabinet with Blue Alnico or Celestion G12M speakers. This is close to the tone you get from Vox AC30 TB top Brilliant input and amp set to breakup (vol:10, Treble:1, Bass:2, Cut:11 o'clock)
